3rd time lucky for Rovers ?
THREE could be the lucky number for Rovers as they prepare for their encounter with Oldham in the third round of the Carnegie Challenge cup.
The draw has once again paired the sides, who first clashed in the 2003 fourth round after Rovers emphatic scalp over Dewsbury Rams. Despite a gutsy tussle Sharlston bowed out of the esteemed competition in a rescheduled Wednesday evening game with a respectable 24-4 defeat.
The following season Sharlston made the round 3 stages and once again the luck of the draw paired them Oldham this time with Rovers gaining home advantage. The game was played at Featherstone and an improved Oldham side took its toll on the hosts despite an early bright spell.
Oldham have started the season well with a victory of Widnes Vikings but Sharlston Player/Coach Lee Bettison remains optimistic saying ďThere could have been easier ties for us to face but at the end of the day its 80 minutes of rugby and anything can happen, and the Dewsbury victory is testimony to that. It will be a tough ask for us but Iím sure Oldham wonít be counting their chickens just yet. Itís a massive achievement that we are in this position and its testament to all the hard work the players have put in.Ē
The game is scheduled to take place on the 8th of March with a 3pm Kick Off. Watch this space for information on travel arrangements organised by the club.
