Rovers showed their determination and desire to continue their winning ways with an excellent hard fought victory against a very good Hunslet club Parkside outfit, coming from behind to claim the spoils.

Rovers started really strong and scored through Huskins after only 2 minutes following some good work from the forwards and a clever kick from Jones, Wandless converting to give the home side a dream start.

Further good work saw Smith go close before Jones regathered his own chip over and fed the supporting Wandless who scored under the posts and converted on 10 minutes. Rovers were on fire at this stage and the confidence grew with Nicol and Whitehouse going close before Huskins nabbed his 2nd try on 19 minutes.

Rovers then became complacent and Hunslet gradually worked their way back into the match with the big visiting pack causing damage with some excellent offloads and good support play. The visitors reduced the arrears on 28 minutes with a converted score following lost possession by Rovers and scored again on 33 minutes following another home mistake in their own half. Rovers stemmed the tide for a while and almost scored through Shaw after some good work by Taylor and debutant Dutson. The comeback by the visitors was complete however when they pulled within 2 points in the last minute of the half with a score out wide.

Rovers unusually started the 2nd period very slowly and the visitors took control of the game from the restart with a try on 41 minutes to give them a 4 point lead. 3 minutes later and Rovers were in real trouble as the Hunslet side scored another converted try after a good kick caught Rovers napping. Rovers regrouped and regained their composure as they started to claw their way back into the match. Good work from Torville and Bettinson saw Golec stopped just short and Hawkins went close before Timms crashed over to reduce the deficit on 50 minutes. Rovers were back within 2 points on 60 minutes when the influential Jones created and scored a good try out wide.

Sloppy play from the restart gifted possession back to Hunslet and the failure to deal with a high kick on the last tackle saw the visitors extend the lead on 63 minutes with a converted try. Rovers again worked hard and good work saw Wandless score his 2nd try of the day, self-converted to leave the home side 2 points behind going into the closing 10 minutes of a tough match. The young side never gave up and were rewarded for their hard work when Jones and Smith combined well to put Kavanagh over in the corner on 75 minutes, no conversion meant a slender 2 point advantage had to be defended with the big visiting pack throwing everything at the Rovers line in a desperate attempt to win the match.

Rovers held firm and just about deserved the points although both sides worked hard to give an excellent afternoon’s entertainment to the large crowd watching.

Best for the Rovers side were Whitehouse, Huskins and Dutson with Jones taking the Motor City Motorists centre sponsored man of the match award for an excellent effort on the day.
The next game is a local derby away at Ossett Trinity Tigers where Rovers will be looking to continue their good recent form
