FROM THE ARCHIVE :- Sharlston 12 Elland 16 Yorkshire Cup 2004

Hope of once again getting to the Yorkshire cup final were dispelled once again to the hand of Elland for the second year running. The tie paired both the Pennine and Yorkshire league respective leaders and made for classic.

Danny Grimshaw opened the scoring but Elland hit back from prop Shickle both team converting to go into the interval 6-6.

Bishop gave his side the second half lead with a converted penalty but Rovers hit back with an unconverted try from prolific centre Gareth Davies. Indiscipline allowed Bishop to kick his side level and then in front with 2 penalty goals leading 12-10.

Elland edged further ahead with 10 minutes from time by Shackleton, improved by Bishop and despite Sharlston throwing everything at the visitors they could not find a wa through.

Elland made it to the final where they were undone by Drighlington 22-12 at Post Office Road.
