Rovers A disappointed with Knights defeat
Normanton Knights A .. 26
Sharlston Rovers A ..16
Wakefield ARL Talbot and Falcon Cup Final
Rovers lost in the Wakefield and District Talbot and Falcon sponsored trophy for the 3rd year running, in a repeat of last year’s final to old foes Normanton knights.
Knights raced into a 10 point lead after 12 minutes and Rovers were up against it from there on. 20 points down after 30 minutes things looked bleak for Rovers but they rallied with a try from Booth converted by Hill just before the break top give them a slight glimmer of hope.
An unconverted score from Chris Hill saw Rovers edging closer but despite having most of the play in their opponents half the Sharlston 2nd string could not turn pressure into points against the strong Knights defence.
Knights increased their lead with a converted score before Hirst notched a try, again converted by Hill but it was too little too late for Rovers.
Despite the disappointment of losing Rovers can look back on a tremendous season with some excellent memories of some superb displays throughout the campaign and can be proud of their efforts, finishing 4th in a strong division two coupled with some excellent displays in the cup competitions.
Following the game back at the clubhouse a special presentation was held as Rovers waved goodbye to their popular Czech international player David Lahr, who has returned home following the final and all the players, officials and supporters wish him the very best for the future and would love to see him return to the Rovers when he has finished his studies in his homeland.
Rovers 2nd team will now look to assist the 1st team in their hectic run in to the end of their campaign.
