Pennine Division 3
Rovers ran out comfortable winners in this league division 3 encounter against struggling Halifax based rivals Greetland All Rounders with a 13 try demolition.
The first half performance by the visitors was their best 40 minutes of the season so far and the Sharlston side will be looking to build on this effort in the coming weeks as the season gradually comes to its climax.
Rovers started well and set the platform for the day with a good opening set forcing the home side on the back foot almost immediately. In the 3rd minute a superb break by Chris Hill and a neat offload saw Hampshire crash over for an unconverted score. Edwards was held inches short of the line and Kelly went close before Hatfield scored a good individual try after 8 minutes.
Golec scored the 1st of his hat trick on 12 minutes and further good offloading and support play saw Gallagher go close before Hill scored the first of his 3 tries throughout the afternoon. Golec was next to score then Kelly crossed after good work from the forwards who laid the platform for this landslide victory, with some no nonsense defence limiting the vistors chances and some excellent strong running coupled with a near perfect completion rate ensuring Rovers always had the upper hand.
Hill notched his 2nd before the interval and Rovers had the game wrapped up at half time with a 38 v 0 score line.
Rovers continued the onslaught in the 2nd half with Golec completing his hat trick on 43 minutes following some good play between Gallagher and Edwards. Cooper then created and scored a good try before Shaw joined the try scoring exploits latching onto Coopers well timed pass for a simple walk in score.
Kelly crashed over following a good run from Pajor with Hill then completing his hat after good work from J Whitehouse. Hirst and S Reville combined well which resulted in Shaw rounding off the day’s point spree with a good run to line from 30 yards out.
All in all this was a terrific team effort from Rovers with some real good displays from all involved.
Top efforts from Hatfield Cooper and Golec all pushed eventual Motor City sponsored man of the match winner Hill close but his 3 try and 10 goal personal tally combined with a good all round display stood him out from all on show.
While Greetland were always 2nd best they never gave up and were still battling at the end which showed their character and the game was played in a fine spirit with only 2 penalties throughout the afternoon neither for foul play.
Next up for Rovers will be a much tougher trip to one of the division 3 title contenders Dudley Hill A where Rovers will be looking to avenge an early season loss. Players meet at 12-30pm at the clubhouse bus leaves at 1-00pm
