Rovers comeback from half time upset
There was a prospect of a real upset at half-time at UPTON this afternoon, when the home side were 13-4 ahead against holders SHARLSTON ROVERS.
It wasn’t to last, though as Rovers, previously limited to a try by centre Gareth Davies, eased to a 28-19 victory with touchdowns for prop Bart Thomsen, scrum-half Lee Bettinson, prop Danny Richardson and Davies, each of which winger Tommy Malyan converted.
Upton had to be content with a late try by second row Richie Jacques, improved by stand-off Steve Beadle, in response.
Paul Rowan and second row Mark Tepper had crossed for the home side in the first half, Beadle kicking two goals and a drop goal.
Man of the match for Rovers was Danny Richardson sponsored by Tommy Mullaney Snr. Rovers have been drawn at home in the quarter final stage and will host Hull opposition Norland Sharks who they beat in the semis in last years competition. The game will be played on Saturday 13th November along with the other 3 ties Crigglestone All Blacks v Manston Bulldogs, Siddal A v Queens, Drighlington v Hunslet Old Boys
This weekend sees Rovers in league action as they host current Pennine champions Drighlington, kick off 2pm.
