Pennine Division 3

Rovers came off second best in this division 3 encounter against high flying league leaders Dudley Hill A. Hill fielded a strong aggressive side and took control from the off with some hard running and no nonsense defence and dominated the game for long periods.

The visitors scored first following a mix up in the home defence and were soon on the score sheet again exploiting gaps out wide. Despite the efforts of Storey, P Golec and Palmer on defence Rovers found themselves 3 scores down midway through the first period before Whitehouse replied with a trademark score following good approach work by Timms and Hampshire, converted by Hill. Bailey and Richardson worked hard to get Rovers back into the game as the half time break loomed near.

Rovers needed to start the 2nd period well if they were to have any way back into this game but it was the Hill who again took control with two quick fire scores to effectively wrap up the match less than 10 minutes into the half.

Rovers tried hard to get back into the match and Hill went close following good work by Gallagher and Edwards, with Austerberry and Shaw working hard to get Kaye close to the line.

Hill sealed the points with a try in the closing stages and Rovers will be left to reflect on where they went wrong.

Best for the home side in an industrious effort were Edwards, Whitehouse and P Golec with Chris Hill taking the Alarm and Security Services sponsored man of the match award for another nonstop effort.

Next game is away to Bradford based Victoria Rangers Sat 7-11-10 2-00pm Kick off, where Rovers will be looking to kick start their season with a much needed victory.
