Severely under strength Rovers were up against it from the off in this tough encounter at Bradford based rivals Victoria Rangers on a day when their usual effort and commitment was not enough.

The players gave their all and after their usual slow start where they gifted the home side 10 points with 2 early tries the gallant side battled their way back in contention with some good solid work and an excellent completion rate for the next 30 minutes.

Rovers went close through Hampshire and Kavanagh after some good approach play involving Gallagher and Hanley with Kaye also close to scoring following Golecís solo break.

Rovers battled hard and were pressing the home line when a long cut out pass was intercepted and the ensuing 80 yard chase saw the home centre just win the race to the line for a try seconds before the half time break.

That score and the one straight from the restart in the 2nd period effectively killed the game as a contest with Rovers 20 points adrift, but Rovers never say die attitude meant the hosts had to work extremely hard on defence to keep Rovers out with Smith and Palmer both unlucky not to score.

Good work from Sam Whitehouse saw brother Joe stopped just short before Hopton was rewarded for a good display with a hard worked try from Smithís slick pass.

The effort put in by the Rovers was beginning to show and the last quarter saw the side losing payers to injury and fatigue and the home side capitalised with 2 scores in the closing 10 minutes to give the match a rather flattering and one sided looking score line.

This was a difficult day for the Rovers but all the players put in a spirited performance showing their commitment and were well led by Lawson, Golec and Joe Whitehouse with Smith taking the Alarm and Security Services sponsored man of the match award for his non stop effort.

Rover next League game is at home to Bradford based Undercliffe Wildboars Sat 27 -03-10, players meet at 12-15 at the clubhouse for a 2-30 kick off.
