For Sharlston Rovers itís going to be an extra special effort if they are to surpass last seasonís achievements. The Yorkshire cup, Pennine Presidents cup, Wakefield Presidents cup and Premier League champions are once again poised for hopefully successful season under newly appointed coach Chris Chester.

The Hull KR assistant coach has been putting the pre-dominantly unchanged squad through their paces for the last 6 weeks and will be able to gauge the teamís progress this weekend when Rovers host relegated NCL premier side Rochdale Mayfield.

The Rovers squad has been bolstered by several timely additions with Ben Cooper ex Huddersfield Giants and current Hull FC conditioner, BARLA U23s international Tommy Malyan and past Rovers captain Steve Hall adding class to the successful squad.

Sharlston will struggle to replace influential forward James Lockwood who was picked up in the off season by Dewsbury Rams and helped gain them promotion, alongside player coach Lee Bettinson who will embark on a year travelling the world.

Reassuringly for the Rovers supporters is the comfort of having quality players throughout the squad with the like of Pennine Player of the Year Jonathan Waddle, BARLA International Lee Maskill, and captain Craige Miles just to name a few.

Mayfield are also bringing their Academy team who play in the North West Counties league and they will line up against Rovers own Aí team in a curtain raiser set to kick off at 1.30 before the main event at 3pm.

Following the preseason friendlies Rovers will offer hospitality to the red rose club in the new and refurbished club house formerly the Sharlston WMC, following an off season move from their Sharlston Hotel head quarters.
