A team earn victory but improvements can be made

Sharlston Rovers A .. 38
Undercliffe Wildboars .. 0

For the 2nd week running Rovers kept a clean sheet and despite not firing on all cylinders were far too good for their Bradford based opponents.

Rovers created plenty of chances in the opening quarter but all too often forced the last play and let the visitors off the hook on several occasions.

Rovers posted the opening try on 12 minutes when Haigh and Wandless linked well from a scrum move with the latter putting Kelly, making his 100th appearance for the Rovers A side, over for a good converted score. The next 20 minutes saw Rovers constantly creating the openings but failing to convert chances into points, Heath Cooper and Potter all went close without scoring and the home side were trying to force the play at every set.

The defence from the Rovers was a different matter and the visitors never looked like breaching the home line, which was well marshalled by Palmer Bailey and Golec. Smith crashed over after 32 minutes after another set piece play involving Golec and Bailey with Wandless again converting.

The 2nd period saw Rovers turn the screw on the visitors with Bailey smashing his way over the line 3 minutes into the half and 2 minutes later the game was effectively over when Potter scored a try from a clever kick through by Wandless, both scores too far out to convert.

Smith scored his 2nd of the day from another set play involving Haigh and Golec with Wandless adding the extras to take the home side further out of sight. Big defence from Shaw and Whitehouse pushed the visitors back at every turn and Smith completed his hat trick score with 10 minutes remaining, Wandless again successful with the extras.

Youngster Gallagher capped a fine debut display with a superb try in the closing moments, converted by Wandless to give Rovers an emphatic victory.

There were some good displays all around the park from the Rovers side with Whitehouse, Golec, Wandless and Kelly all catching the eye.

The Motorcity Motorists Centre sponsored man of the match award went to Smith who again led the way on both attack and defence.
