BARLA Yorkshire Cup Quarter Final
Sharlston secured their place in the Yorkshire cup semi finals after a surprising rout over unbeaten Hull league opponents Norland Sharks. Rovers visited Norland last season in the semi final stage where they went onto a second consecutive cup triumph over Hunslet Old Boys but only after a sterling tester from the Sharks.
In this encounter however the visitors couldn’t contain a Rovers side which were merciless in attack running in 11 tries the first of which came for strong running Bart Thompsen. Gareth Davies was also in fine form chipping in with a trademark hat-trick and loose forward Mike Emmitt registering a brace of tries.
Also on the scoresheet were centre Brian Sutton, second row Tom Burns, substitute Adam Saynor, winger Richard Hatfield and hooker Carl Saville going in for a try and a goal. Tommy Malyan was in fine form with boot adding 8 conversions.
Rovers now have a tough tie they must overcome if they are to have a chance of defending their trophy for a third consecutive occasion. Drighlington will travel to Sharlston on the 27th November in the semi final while Crigglestone All Blacks will travel to Queens so there could be an all Wakefield final on the cards if both teams are successful.
The semi final tie will have added spice after the Pennine management knocked back a claim for the result to stand from Drighlignton in the recent Pennine game which was abandoned due to referee injury. Drig were leading 22-10 when the injury occurred 57 minutes in but the game will now be replayed in full at a later date in the season.
This weekend Rovers start their run in the Pennine Presidents cup with an away trip to Birkenshaw, kick off 2.00pm.
